Is Laminated Sheet Overmolded? In-depth Analysis Of The Production Process Of Laminated Boards

Nov 19, 2024

Laminated sheets are not overmolded products, but are produced through processes such as pretreatment, coating, and curing.
Coated board is a kind of board widely used in construction, furniture and other fields, and its surface is covered with a protective film, which makes the board have better wear resistance, scratch resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties. However, the question of whether the laminated board is overmolding has caused many people to wonder. So, how exactly is laminated board produced? Is it a secondary molding product?

First, let's take a look at the concept of overmolding. Overmolding generally refers to the process of reprocessing a material that has already been molded to change its shape or structure. The production process of laminated panels does not fit this definition.

The production of laminated board mainly includes the following steps:

1. Pretreatment
Before the production of laminated sheets, the raw materials need to be pre-treated. This includes steps such as cleaning, degreasing, and derusting to ensure that the surface of the raw material is clean and free of impurities, providing a good basis for the subsequent coating process.

2. Coating
After the pretreatment is completed, the paint is evenly applied to the surface of the raw material. The type and thickness of the coating can be selected according to the specific needs to meet different performance requirements.

3. Curing
Once the coating is complete, the sheet needs to be cured. The curing process can be carried out by heating, ultraviolet irradiation, etc., so that the coating is tightly bound to the raw material to form a tough, wear-resistant protective film.

After the above steps, the laminated sheet is produced. It can be seen that the production process of laminated board does not involve the reprocessing of the material that has already been formed, so it is not a secondary molding product.

So, why do some people mistakenly think that laminated sheets are overmolded products? This may be related to the appearance of the laminated sheet. The surface of the laminated sheet is covered with a protective film, which makes it look like a secondary processed product. In reality, however, this protective film is formed directly in the production process through processes such as coating and curing, rather than reprocessing the already formed sheet.
